Greater Manchester is continuing to invest in the infrastructure that supports its growth, with plans to expand and enhance its tram and rail network through to 2030.
Delivered through the Bee Network, the programme includes a £150 million investment in the Metrolink network, helping to improve reliability, capacity, and connectivity across the city-region. As the UK’s most extensive light rail network, Metrolink serves 99 stops across eight lines and carries more than 41 million passenger journeys each year.
The wider plans aim to strengthen connections across Greater Manchester whilst improving links to regional and national destinations. Rail services are also expected to become fully integrated into the Bee Network by 2030, creating a more seamless public transport experience for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Alongside local transport improvements, new overnight rail services to Manchester Airport will further enhance connectivity to international markets, supporting the city’s position as a leading destination for business, investment, and tourism.
As Manchester continues to attract investment, talent and global businesses, long-term infrastructure projects such as the Bee Network are expected to play an important role in supporting the city-region’s continued economic growth.
