Manchester’s reputation as a global centre for innovation has received a further boost, with The University of Manchester announcing a world-first partnership with Microsoft.
The initiative will see Microsoft 365 Copilot rolled out across the university, making The University of Manchester the first university in the world to provide access and training at this scale to its community of more than 65,000 staff and students.
The announcement builds on Manchester’s long-standing contribution to computing and artificial intelligence. This year marks 76 years since Alan Turing published his pioneering work on AI whilst based at the university, which today is home to more than 1,600 researchers working across AI-related disciplines.
The partnership is designed to equip students with future-ready skills, support teaching and research, and help ensure equitable access to emerging technologies. It also reinforces Manchester’s position as one of Europe’s leading destinations for innovation, talent and investment, and the UK’s second-largest creative, digital and technology hub.
